Ernest J. Mungo, III

Our beginning:

The Late Ernest Jackson Mungo Jr. a native of Lancaster SC, always desired entrepreneurship, it was that desire that led Mr. Mungo to attend the McAllister School of Embalming in New York City, graduating in the class of 1950. “Ernie as he was affectionally called was an expert embalmer, it was said of many''that if a deceased person couldn't be restored leave the job to Mr. Mungo and he was sure to recreate the deceased back to a natural state for viewing. Mr. Mungo embarked to Colleton County to work for Hamilton's Funeral Home of Walterboro, SC, it was there, he continued to pursue his very passion for what he loved best, but he knew some day, he would eventually venture out to own a funeral home, it was his keen interest and vast knowledge that allowed him to begin Mungo-Community Funeral Home 629 Padgett Loop Walterboro,SC. He then ventured on to open Mungo Funeral Home which was located at 804 Francis St. Walterboro, a midst obstacles; he sought property and decided that he would build an elaborate facility to facilitate the needs of those in Colleton County, it was at 300 Francis St. that his dream came alive. His struggle for this new location to be built, was again met with obstacles, but Mr. Mungo being the wise and prudent man he was, established Mungo Funeral Home at it's present location 300 Francis St. Mr. Mungo was one to tend to those who were less fortunate and desired his help, he passed his knowledge on to other young people whom desired to become Funeral Service Professionals. His gift of sharing allowed him to become a trade embalmer for several funeral homes in the lowcountry of SC. In 1995 Ella Fishburn Mungo the wife of Mr. Ernest J. Mungo, Jr., made a decision to enroll in mortuary school. In the year of 1995, Ella Mungo did just that, and graduated with a diploma in Funeral Service from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, GA. In December 2007, Mr. Ernest J. Mungo, Jr., summoned the call of an all mighty, supreme God, and the soul took flight from labour to a heavenly reward. The Shock of Mr. Mungo's death was enormous, however, his only son, Ernest J. Mungo, III took up the reigns and became the owner of Mungo Funeral Home and Chapel. Today, Mungo Funeral Home is family owned and operated, just as it was from the beginning.
